    Hi,
I notice there are some white worm like thingy in the tank. At first I thought it was dust, but on closer look, it is actually moving. What are these thing and how do I get rid of it? Will Seachem Paraguard work?
By the way, tank was just flooded 2 days ago. No fish yet.

Those are usually just nematodes or detritus worms, they are harmles. Those critters help to consume excess food and breakdown waste too, so can be considered part of the tank's clean-up crew.

Seachem Paraguard will not kill them as they are not parasites. Usually after the tank is cycled and you add in small fishes, they will hunt and eat the worms as part of their diet.

Just did a google search. The description fit a nematodes. If its harmless then its ok. Anyway off topic, UA have you ever used Tropica soil before?

I haven't used the Tropica brand soil before, but i guess it should be quite good quality considering the company produces top quality plants too.

Reason why I asked is that when I was using ADA Aquasoil for my 36cm tank, my initial parameters were high reading of ammonia, slight reading on nitrite and 0 on nitrate. But on my 60cm tank with tropica, my reading was 0 ammonia, 0.5ppm nitrite and 0 nitrate. As if the soil is inert.

Interesting, i guess based on your tests the Tropica soil is probably a more conservative soil mixture designed to be used in combination with fertilizer solutions or root tab/sticks when required.

I did a search online and it seems others who reviewed the Tropica soil also write that it doesn't release much ammonia too, so that should be its characteristic. Might be good for those who start with less densly planted tanks or keeping shrimp tanks.
