    What do you guys think??

One think for sure, fish will most likely died from temperature shock. Fish can survive from higher temperature to lower but not the other way. @_@ I have killed a fish before within minutes by dropping it from lower temp. tank to higher temp. tank.

Wow, Bro Bern, good to see you.
Long time no see. How's the gowan?
I must salute you for mentioning this topic as it is a very interesting one.

I suppose those experts are right about the ammonia build-up problem during long transits.

What I am careful about is chemical shock when I transfer the fish from the transit bag to my tank. I usually top up the bag (which is long) with some of the tank water and let it stay for 20 min before doing the transfer.

    Hi bro,

After hearing from what my friend did to his altum angels, I have not been adding my tank water to the plastic bags that I brought home with fishes or shrimps yes , I mean shrimps as well.
when I reach home, I will put the bag of fish or shrimps on the floor, around 30 mins later, I will net out the fish or shrimps and in they will go into my tank. so far so good... I will keep the plastic bag water for a while just in case the fish flip, I still have its original water to scoop to, but so far so good.

one thing to think about is that when you go fish shop to scoop fish, in most case the shop owner will scoop water from another place for you to catch fish and bag it home... that kept me thinking also... why I cannot scoop the tank water...

Same thought, I question myself if drip is useful for such instances.

There are only two shops that I go to scoop from the same tank water, Green Chapter Macpherson insist to take from the same tank only, the other is Aquatic Avenue. For these two shops, I still do the drip method.

Heya~ shifus. Yeah.. long no see. Have been inactive in this forum for a while. XD Recently still following this forum but seldom write.

Yeah.. I also find this topic very interesting. I have never killed any fish or invertebrate through chemical shock(ie ph, gh & kh) but I still continue doing water parameter acclimation just to have a peace of mind. For matured tanks, I have swapped fishes from different parameter without acclimation and they survived.
^_^ Thanks for sharing your experiences. XD I think I will stick to this simple way of acclimation, just temperature.

I think as long as the water is clean, we can just dump the fish in without any fuss.

Also, since we live in a small place, the temperatures do not vary much no matter where we live, unlike countries which span a vast lat and long. Of course things will be different with the widespread aircon use here.

Yeah agree.. Top killers are temperature swing, NH4 & NO2. As long as water parameter isn't huge different. I also came across some interesting articles that some of the wild fishes from soft water being breed into a generation of hardier fish that able to adapt hard water.

    Re: Acclimation Controversy

After being in the hobby for quite some time, you will develop your own procedure of introducing new fishes to your tank.

    Below is my procedure.
    1) Switch the tank light to dim or blue.
    2) Soak the bag in tank water for 30 mins to equalize the temperature.
    3) Drip tank water very slowly into the water bag.
    4) After 30 mins or more, transfer the fishes from the plastic bag to a floating breeder plastic container floating in the main tank.
    5) Here the new fish will encounter the tank water fully. I also feed them a little so they gain strength.
    6) After another 30 mins or more, they are transfer from the floating container to the main live tank.

It may seem a long process but why rush ? The fish is already bought and for you to enjoy and hopefully for as long as possible. Hope that helps.

I think one thing to note about the video is their country. What i mean is. Shipping or if you buy a fish distance from LFS to home may take a few hours and if shipping is involved the fish would even be weaker making it even tougher and more delicate handling is needed.

Yup... The last person got interviewed was also asked if he will do drip acclimation for fish that bought from local pet store. The interviewee said he might but he don't do it.

XD I have been thinking if water parameter acclimation is necessary. I tried a couple of time without water parameter acclimation and dropped the livestocks into a matured tank and they are doing well.
I am doing water parameter acclimation to have a peace of mind.. XD Now I going to stick to temp acclimation only after coming across this video and experiences from forumers.
