Once your MC creeps upwards it means your light is not strong enough to penetrate to the bottom.

Go check out Amano's tank for inspiration as most of his plants were supplied by local farms in SG. I know some of them who supplied to ADA Japan.

I guess the problem lies on your tank height is too high that cause the light is not strong enough to reach the bottom of the tank. My MC in 1ft low tech tank with 30cm tank height is creeping well (not upward) with my UP Z series 30cm led light.

Thank you for the reply, i will have to upgrade my light.

Is there a guide on how much watts required versus depth of water?

For LED lights, its not just the total wattage that determines their effecriveness in taller tanks, you also have to look at the actual wattage of the individual LED modules.

In a tall 45cm height tank like yours, you should go for LED lights that use individual 3W LEDs (or higher), those stronger LEDs will provide more depth penetration to get sufficient light down to plants at the substrate level.

Here is an example of a LED lightset that uses individual 3W LEDs: http://www.eastoceansg.com/odyssea-e...ant-p-820.html

There are many other LED lightset brands and models that have similar or more power, just shop around to compare their features and prices.

Thank you Urban Aquaria. I bought a 2ft Beamswork Hi lumen 60 (planted) and they are using small LEDs, I think the total watts is 28w. Do you think this will be sufficient ?

Re: MC not creeping and need plant suggestion

As point out by UA, if the light is going to use for your 45cm height tank. Then this lighting may not be sufficient to penetrate deep down to the bottom of the tank. So 28w of lighting maybe ok if they are using say 9x3w (total 27w) led. But the beamwork lighting is using 48x0.5w (total 24w) led, which means it most probably won't have the power to penetrate the same amount of light as 3w led at the bottom of your 45cm height tank.
But then, you still can try out with your beamwork lighting since you already own it. If the plant show the sign of not enough lighting, then you may want to invest on another set of lighting.

    Dreamer, thank you.

i will likely buy another odyssey 48W and add it to 24W light which I bought 3 days ago.

Lets burn some MC with 72W (48W+24W) blast ... Lol

Re: MC not creeping and need plant suggestion

In your particular case, have to try and see... just using the 48W light with stronger LEDs might already be sufficient.

It may be better to use the 24W light with weaker LEDs on another lower height tank instead, as most its light intensity can't reach the substrate level of the tall tank anyways. If yout tank contains mainly carpet plants, it might end up just encouraging algae growth at the top half of the tank where there are no plants.
