Hi guys, i just need some advice. Are crayfish/yabbies, rainbow crabs, malayan trumpet snails and those tiny flower crabs suitable to all be in the same tank as tank mates?

    Re: Crabs

Its possible to keep them in the same tank but there will likely be fighting and injuries amongst the crayfish and crabs (they are most vulnerable when they molt, unless the tank is large and there are plenty of hiding spaces for all of them). The snails may also get eaten by them too.

Do note that rainbow crabs and most of the other small crabs available at LFS are semi-aquatic and spend time out of water, so they need accessible land areas... compared to crayfish which can live in fully aquatic environments. So you'll have to setup your tank accordingly.

    Re: Crabs

Any aquarium plants will do, the crabs will usually go for the softer leaved ones first (ie. moss, hornworts, water wisteria, rotalas etc), while the tough leaved ones are last resort or left untouched (ie. anubias, java ferns etc).

As for live fishes, the crabs will also eat any type... just that you have to check that the fishes are healthy and remember to remove any uneaten parts of the fish as they will rot and stink up quite fast. It can get abit messy at times especially if the bits of meat litter the tank and water, so there is more clean up to do.

When i kept rainbow crabs, i fed them mainly with algae wafers and crab food (ie. Hikari Crab Cuisine) and they had no issues growing and molting, so those are viable alternatives to live foods.
