you can start with bloodworms (live/frozen) for live, remember to wash them thoroughly. Or you can feed them with beefheart. Ask the owner of the discus what they used to feed on, that will make your life easier. To make them grow faster, feed them high-protein food like beefheart. but it will depend on whether they will feed on it
Feeding beefheart will enhance the growth of your discus.. but it will also dirty the water easily.. Therefore, it is best if you do water change after feeding beefheart..
If your discus are not those that will rush for food, then feeding bloodworm is "cleaner"
try BBS or daphnia!!!!

Last time i don't put heater.. and they seems to be "not so active"..
Basing on my own discus breeding experiences, juveniles at 1 inch will thrive very well on both beefheart and tetra bits. This was particularly so for my red rose/alenquer discues. The little ones attack the beefheart like theres no tomorrow. The thing abt beefheart is of course it will affect the water quality. What I did was to change 90% water daily every day two hours after heavy feedings especially when they have eaten fully (bellies distended). From 1 inch size, they can grow to 2 to 2.5 inches within a month. My recipe for the beefheart followed closely those recommended by Bing Seto. My heater temp was normally only @29 degree celsius.
On the contrary, faster growth will bring out more vibrant colours. From my experience, red based discuses when treated to such regime will colour up very fast. Blue or green based discuses are much slower. Instead of feeding tetra bits to such colour strains, should incorporate more spirulina matters in their beefheart mixtures.Originally Posted by andrewtyr

Beef heart is a bit messy to me.
my discus also does not like tetra bits [vitality], it looks similar to tetrabit breeder, but feels "harder".. maybe thats why they don't like it..
i feed my discus pigheart n really, the water becomes dirty very fast... must change water frequently n athe water also tends to stink...
another food for your juvs would be tubifex worms but be prepared to do deworming every month. i used to feed mine tubifex worms and now they are at a gd size of 5-6 inches but they should also be supplemented with food rich in spirulina and astaxantin to bring out their colour otherwise your fishes will have dull colours when they grow up
