Are south american Apistogramma compatible with shrimp? I was thinking a pair of these and 20 tiger shrimp in a 5 gallon?

No, I see yours is a small tank, they will end up as snacks, unless it's in a huge tank and they are big yamatos, then the shrimps would stand a chance.
