do a 50 % water change regularly... filtered water is enough
Hi all,
I have a soft acidic tank.
ph around 5.5 - 6
Was previously cycling properly till i added a lot of borneowild humic to bring my water ph down as I'm gonna keep taiwan bee.
Day one when I added the shrimps. Ammonia level 0.0 nitrite 0.0 nitrate 10ppm
Week one my ammonia slowly went up. Ammonia level 0.5 nitrite 0.0 nitrate 5ppm
Week two my ammonia went up. Ammonia level 5.0 nitrite 0.0 nitrate 0ppm
So I went to a lfs and get a new ammonia test kit cos I tot my ammonia should not be that high.
And I found out that all my ammonia has converted to ammonium.
LFS suggest me to get atm colony.
I did some research
Ammonium is not toxic to fish or shrimps. And atm colony's only strive on higher ph.
Current : week four ammonia 5.0 nitrite 0.0 nitrite 0.0 ph 5.5
So i really need everyone's help to bring down my high ammonium tank. 😢

Okay maybe I should give it a try and check it out. I wanna try to avoid using seachem prime as it also convert ammonia to to ammonium.

Hi there Andrea! You should immediately do 50% water changes on a day to day or once in 2 days basis. If you wish, you may use Dechlorinator but personally, I just let the water soak overnight. The truth is that most pH buffers have side-effects when using them. I don't really know what is Borneo Wild Humic but I suggest against using it. What substrate do you have? If you use ADA soil, it will automatically lower pH for you. However I think ADA soil might also affect Kh so I'm not sure if your Taiwan bee will be affected.
