    2ft Planted Tank with Sand

    Hi guys! Just flooded my tank last night. Would like to ask for your expert opinions on what plants could be used to fill the gaps at the left edge.

    Specs:
    2ft bow front tank
    Eheim 2215
    ADA Amazonia Soil Powder Type
    Sansibar Red Sand

    Flora:
    Eleocharis acicularis
    Rotala sp green
    Some grass like plant
    Philippines narrow fern
    Hydrocotyle tripartita
    Christmas moss
    Mini fissiden
    Cryptocoryne wendtii
    Hygrophila pinnitifida

    Not intending to introduce fauna for 1st couple of weeks till plants stabilise.
    Dosing with weekly seachem NPK, trace, iron.

    You may want to try hairgrass. It don't need so much care and it reproduces pretty Min by itself. All you need is some good lighting and it will grow well. Actually, you need not fill up the space at the front of you are intending to keep Corys. Corys like grazing spots and actually, this setup looks great without any plants in the empty space.

    I like what you created, but I feel the sand volume is a bit thick. In the long run when the tank matures, it could be a source of hidden nutrient base that could trap and release it when you least expect it. If some parts of it turns black, you might have a problem.

    Why would a thick sand substrate be a "source of hidden nutrient base that could trap and release it when you least expect it", when a thick soil substrate would not have that hazard? Is not a thick soil layer required for heavy rooting stem plants?
