Oh dear! Think my fish got the ich!

I have added some salt to the aquarium. I am thinking of getting seachem paraguard too. However, i have read conflicting info on the medicine. I read that we have to remove the invertebrates (shrimps) before adding the med. I also read that the med is shrimp safe.

So, which is which? Shifus and Drs, please help!!

    Many thanks.

Yes, what type of shrimp you have? If Yamato, red nose and cherry, definitely no problem. If not, isolate the affected fish into another tank. Dose with paraguard?

    Re: White spots on rasboras

If your fishes developed ich white spots while in the main tank, then you have to treat the entire tank with all the fishes in it, assume that the parasites are now everywhere in the tank.

While many of us have successfully used Paraguard in community tanks with shrimps... if you have very expensive or sensitive shrimps that you cannot afford to lose, then to be safe you can transfer those shrimps to a separate temporary tank, then dose Paraguard in the main tank to treat all the fishes. Do make sure to leave the shrimps in the temporary tank for at least 2 weeks without any other fishes (the parasites do not affect the shrimps but can hitchhike on them and re-infect fishes, if 2 weeks the free swimming parasites can't find any fish host they will die off).

Do note that the net which you use to transfer the shrimp will also carry parasites across tanks too, so make sure it is cleaned and fully dried before using it to net the shrimps back later.

Mine are cherry shrimps. Fire reds to be exact. So i reckon its ok to dose paraguard. But the symptoms seems to have subsided after a few doses of salt. Thanx all!!! As always.
