Hi guys! back into fish tanks after 10 years, this time thinking of setting up a 2 feet low tech planted tank.

I already bought 2 feet tank, some jap brand black substrate, eheim 2213 and some flora( java fern and anubis) from c328 and a UP T series 6 watt LED light. ( last time no LED light, only t5)

    Intended for shrimp/tetra/mosquito raspbora tank.

No intention to go CO2 at the moment (maybe in the future)

I itchy hand and bought some hair grass but dont seem to grow and melting and I was thinking of changing the LED light to something better.

I narrowed it down to Beamsworks Hilumen 60 ( I think it is 24watt cant seem to find it anywhere), UP U Series for plants tank and UP Z series for plants (16watt?)

Which one would you recommend and what which is better UP U series or Z series?

Will the beamswork Hilumen 60 be too bright and cause massive algae grow?

    Thanks in advance

Re: Newbie question on LED Lighting for low tech planted tank.

I have used the Up Aqua Z-Series LED to grow an Eleocharis sp. mini carpet (mini version of dwarf hairgrass) in my 2ft tank before, so i can say that it works.

Here is a link to my tank journal for reference: http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...Edge-quot-Tank!

Note that i used the old generation Z-Series which runs on individual 0.06W LEDs (totaling to only around 10W), not the more powerful 0.5W LEDs in the newer generation model. I would assume the new versions should be even better.

Also note that i use Co2 injection in that tank setup, so the plant growth is faster.

If you don't use Co2 injection, expect the overall plant growth to be much slower, because even if you have a lot of light and nutrients, the plant growth will still be greatly restricted by limited carbon supply. In such cases, higher powered lights wouldn't help much since the plants can't use it efficiently, all the excess light will just end up growing more algae instead.

You can find Beamswork high lumen at Khatib fish shop. I bought my set from there. It cost me about $70 but I was able to bargain it down to $65.
