Hi guys, the crispus in my tank shot out a flower stalk about 2 weeks ago. The flower stalk is still there and it's getting longer. What am I supposed to do with it? Leave it alone and wait for it to wilt or cut it off. Reading some conflicting stuff on the Internet. Some people say should cut it off and collect the seeds while others say it should be left on its own.

And it seems there is another stalk that is coming out soon.

Seems a little out of place in the tank.

If you feel it is out place in the tank then just trim it off.

It might be similar to garden's plants. Sometimes early trimming (dead heading) is better so that plants will focus on developing leaves.

Once plants got flowers and seeds, it will spend more priority energy for that process and plants will receive the signal that reproduction cycle is about to complete, thus plant's leaves might be not so flourish as before and leaves might fall.

So it depends on what you like to see flowers or leaves to decide on trimming.

I just snipped it off yesterday. There were 3 flower stalks. And like you mentioned I noticed the plant did not put out any new leaves and old leaves are yellowing. It just keep putting out flower stalks.
