Anyone can share a effective or correct way to do quarantine on new fishes before adding to the ready tank. What are the steps and material to use for the quarantine? Thanks in advance.

Re: How to do a proper quarantine of new fishes

Hi there David! I suggest using this method:
    Materials:
    1) Air pump and a Air powered sponge filter
    2) A 10l or more plastic tank
    3) Medication (I suggest using Seachem paraguard) *Note: It is optional to dose meds but I dose Paraguard just to make sure

    Steps:
    1) Fill up the tank with dechlorinated water and place the air filter inside the tank.
    2) Let is cycle for a few days (you can add bacteria culture like bacterlife or stuff like that)
    3) Place the fish in and dose meds according to instructions
    5) Leave the fish there for about 1-2 weeks, making sure you do water changes regularly after 1 week of usage

    Hi David,

Do you have other fishes in the main tank that you want to add? if no then just add in the fishes.
If there are some "expensive " fish in your tank then better quarantine.

I personally have not quarantine my fishes before from the fish shop when I buy the fish, I will see if they are sick, if spotted that they are sick, I will not even buy them.

If I will to quarantine, I will just add in some salt to the water for a few days, if the fish are fine, I will just add into the main tank.

I do not have expensive fishes. Well it is heart breaking when some of the fishes in the main tank dies when new fishes added. It happen to me recently. The real reason of the death is unknown but I suspect is some parasites problem. The water parameters are good after testing with toolkit. Now everything is under control.
