Hi all, tried doing dsm but failed 4th time. Plant is hc and ada soil I tried puddles, moist, cling wraps with or w/holes but always it will start to melt or die off. Lights about 10hrs, i tried to spread out the roots to plant and this time i took water from my another tank dose with flourish and flourish potassium
    . Still melting.

Try to flood it immediately, you can have great success in wet start if you pump lots of CO2 and strong lights.

i did a wet start with CO2 at 6-8bps and 48w green element EVO. And the HC carpets really fast with good fertiziling. Just look out for algae and dose Algaexit from the start. I have fan blowing and water temp average at 29C. Your HC will grow very fast

    Re: Dsm tank

Actually the dry start method should work out well if the plants are healthy. However it may because of shock from being submerged to emersed in this case. Did you buy the plants from a shop which sold them in plastic boxes like what Seaview does or was is in a tank and you picked it from there. Plants tend to have shock when they are transferred from one living condition to another. Therefore, try to buy plants that are already emersed and nor submerged before doing the DSM method. I'm starting a 5 feet tank in June and will be trying out this DSM method. So I will keep you guys updated if this method works.

    Cheers,

Maybe you can start flooding immediately after planting without dry start method. Just have to make sure you have high CO2 to level and strong light.

can you share your tank height and light used and CO2 injection method.

    Re: Dsm tank

Without co2 and good lights, you can't do HC. Your best bet is MC (Monte Carlo). Even that will grow very slowly, regardless of wherther DSM or wet start.

i would suggest you grow some low light and low CO2 requirement plant.

if you have strong lights, fertilizer and no CO2, you will get algae. You need a balance system.

please search for threads on low tech tank. You can find lots of information there.

    Re: Dsm tank

For HC, eventually after flooding the tank, you will need CO2, excel may be sufficient for low CO2 requirement plant , but for HC, you will need CO2 all the time.

Excel is not equal to Co2. It is much less efficient than Co2.

    what lights are you using?
