haha.. like a mafia are they..... a law onto themselves..... looks like only the sheer force of law can deal with such pig-headed individuals. With such people, it's only a matter of time before the whole world is wasted and comes crashing down on their foolishness.

So it looks like I will have to bring NParks actively into this against those on that forum, since gentle persuasion has failed....

    LOL.
Those people just find extreme pleasure to rebuke and win others in talking. its has always been the case in some subforums

I think its not a need to degrade ourselves to deal with them. Just let it be and let the people around be the judges

Some of their posts really baffled me .....
Why do they want to purposely buy fish just to release into the rivers?
Ya , i also agree that some of them just enjoys rebuking. Wonder why....

    Hey Guys,

Sad to say, this is the culture of most forumers in AF. The "i'm a super hero behind my computer" stance. Pretty sad if you look at it. He's probably some small kid hiding behind his fast ADSL modem.

Cases of such have happened in AF before, and as you can see, we as moderators (I'm a moderator at the planted section) and admin try our best to stick out of it for reasons of conflicting views.

I'm burning inside, close to the edge to get involved, but as we were told, its best to stay out of the thread for now. We've experienced, closing the thread does no good at all.

I second the move if you decide to relate to authorites. After all, these guys are but typical (No offense here) singaporeans. Thinking, as they all do, that they can do anything, until the authorithes show up, then they understand its a serious matter (Can Do anything under the sun, just don't get caught).

I suggest we refrain from communicating with them despite they're tauntings. Thing is, they just want you to reply so they can taunt you further. I've personally experienced a user who provoked and questioned my ability to be a moderator, and all i did was remind him gently that he had to accredit his photos to their owners.

But i've realised from that incident that the best way out, is just to shut them out. If you ignore them they've got nothing to play on. Make a last stand, go in say what you have to say and then ignore the thread despite of their taunts (if you can manage that).

Just let the matter blow over on the surface, work with the authorites on this.

    Sigh,
    Jerome

    hi Jerome,
thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience. I have tried (I hope fairly) to present the issue as one centred around the actions of individuals, rather than the forum itself (since the forum comprises so many different interests and groups), and as I have noted, I see no point in further replies there.

    Budak,

hahaha Jerome, good to hear from you and to see you in AQ. Let me first apologise for my earlier statement of "I don't go over there unless at the convenience of a click…". I have nothing against AF other than the fact there isn't enough hours in a day!

On the other hand, you got at least one extra registered user (your truly) because of this. I registered just in case I beh tahan liaoz must jump in and "fight first talk later"

I don't know, I believe the picture he posted with nets and poking of python should be enough to earn him a warning from the NPB. Anyway the practice of most of us is to simply take note of these people and simply not share information with them.

Jerome, I pity you sometimes honestly though, the aquascaping forum might as well be renamed the shrimp forum. Ignore them... sometimes I wonder to myself: man, these people are probably adults in their 20s and 30s, and they do that?

Hope to see you around here more often Jerome

Man I didn't know they were poking at a python? Gosh this pple really have no general knowledge of our fauna and flora! That python might have been tagged for research (I was involve in a tagging research a few yrs back) and it has been documented that pythons found in S'pore might be the same species as other Reticulated pythons found in Malaysia, sumatra and indonesia but our pythons do have certain distinct physical difference (markings, size, eye color)

I've been featured in local TV documentaries "Green Detectives" tagging reptiles and have been researching on amphibians of S'pore for the past 10yrs, and there're certain species that have are already on the endangered list of worst still are already extinct because of inconsiderate, irresponsible, immoral people like them...

    Just my 2cts

Well if thats the common consensus amongst the aquascapers in the section, i'm fine with letting them chat about their shrimps, as long as it doesn't get too rowdy.

    Simon,

Thanks for the warm welcome and kind words, i've actually been frequenting AQ for years, but never felt any need to post. The information on both our forums are comprehensive enough, all one has to do is make the effort to do a search.

I've been trying to 'drill' that mentality over at my side, but some will always go against the flow. I've learnt to accept them as spices to the otherwise mundane forum.

But take what i said as my POV not from a moderator's POV. We have to clear that fine line up before any instigations begin.

dkk08, glad to hear we've got our very own 'snake-dundee' on board, keep up the good work.

Lets be optimistic, look at how this issue has brought so many Greens into light. Least we know we're not alone, and perhaps others may learn from what we argue and be aware. I don't expect people to go out of their way to protect nature, i just strive for awareness.

    Cheers,
    Jerome

is it actually legal to catch and release creatures in the reserve? on the surface this seem "logical" but in the process of capture, the environment and the fauna would have been disturbed, thus defeating the purpose of a nature reserve.

choy, catching and releasing anything in the reserve is prohibited. I believe if you wish to catch and photography, you might need a write consent from the authority. I think no park ranger himself can give that approval.

Jerone, being a mod/admin allows you to spread and education the members better. If a forum doesn't have anyone who believes in this, the battle is as good as lose.
(I'm not referring to any forum whatsoever)

I would incline to agree with you. of course this stems from the claims by that lucas fellow, which I think is more a FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) tactic.
