my tank is 4ft and my son has put a plastic divider in abut 1ft. so we can catch the baby's and put them in, the other day we had baby's born and the big fish as normal were eating them When we had fry before we put them in the hatchery but for some reason nearly all died the ones that were ok went back in the main tank and we haven't seen them since. So with this divider in they can swim without fear (or myself with out fear ) thanks for reading

That is a brilliant idea to partition a portion of the 4ft tank for fries.

The partition should not be solid plastic. Ideally it should be fine mesh plastic netting, otherwise it will isolate the two compartments thus making the water quality of each different. (That is if you have a bio-filter already installed. If there's no filter, then it makes no difference).
