Clown loach are a no no in a planted tank. Instead of loaches, i can suggest you try using Badis. There are a few type of badis which are good snail eaters.

what do they do to a planted tank..the clown loaches??
...known diggers....and due to its fast swimming and massive size, they can be quite destructive to plant setups.

clown loaches would actually be a great addition to a large planted tank (6 ft or more) with mostly tough plants (Crypts, anubias, swords etc....), but for most tanks, those smaller loach species like Botias, horseface loaches, kuhlii loaches will eat snails. I use kuhlli loaches in my tank and no snail survives.
have a look at www.loaches.com.
my favourite, as always, the horseface loach Acantopsis choirorhynchos.

why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.
