need some help from u guys,

recently, i bought some nice blue/ green neon tetras,

but i found that some of them actually have white spots on the body, like specks of salt on their body...

now, a few of my tetras are died, some cardinal and now the blue neons...
i guess that is the"ich" disease rite??

    is there any cure??
wat are the causes and anything i can now to prevent more tetras form dying??

U try those Anti-ich medicine from LFS and at the same
time give them a table spoon of rock salt for 2 days.

Recommended guidelines for salt dossage will be 1 table spoon for 5 gallons. So if you have a 57L type 2 ft tank, you are looking at 3 tablespoons.

Also, keep the temperation above 28 degrees celcius. I think you need about 1 week before the you break the cycle of the cyst.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

I had the same problem, I bought about a dozen Rummy Nose tetras, the next day they were covered in ich.
Here is what I did and it worked.
Slowly raise your temperature to 30c
ich are a parasite, they cannot survive this temperature, but you have to wait for it to cycle, meaning it has to fall off the fish and become free to the tank for it to die.
Do 30 percent water changes every other day.
I did this, and 8 days later my fish are ich free.
Be patient, this works, and it keeps those harmful chemical treatments out of your tank.
    Good Luck

I noticed I have two cardinal tetras with very swollen eyes. I had isolated them from the rest and I found one of the cardinals with a "worm-like" thingy riding on it. I turn off my fan to increase the tank temp for now.... Hoping for the best...

But to do a 30% water change everyday?
    Cheers and Regards,

    Ich treatment. Google it!

Several different sch of thought. So just pick one youre comfortable with (i wld go with the one that does WC only after a week) ;p

my experience is that those fish with advance illness will sure die. Esp those with one eye gone/bursting kind. Those with just white spots can b cured. Most importantly remember to continue medication for 2 weeks even if all symptoms are gone to kill all the free floating bacteria.

    Taz boy,
I don't use medication, that is the whole point of treating ich the way I and many other hobbyist do.
I have a heavily planted tank with some hard to find species as well as shrimp, some of those medications contain things like blue dyes and copper, they can really mess up your tank.

    Your fish wont die when treating ich in the manner I do, you have to understand a couple of things;
    1. Ich is a parasite
    2. It cannot survive temperatures of 30c
The secret is to let the ich cycle, when you see it on your fish its the first sign, next it will fall off your fish looking for another host, it could be another fish, substrate, plants, but because you have your temp at 30c it dies when it becomes free of the fish.
Another important thing is to do 20 to 30 percent water changes every other day. It helps the process of riding your tank of ich.

Pete, that's really good advice! Another dreaded fish disease is the swollen eye. It is difficult to cure?

swollen eye disease if not wrong is caused by bad water quality. those fishes with less resistance will get this illness first.( not sure for other fishes but definitely for my discus). What i do is to change the water everyday to keep it clean and then it recovers. this works for 2 of my discus which i thought is going to die and miraculously it did not go blind.

Swollen eyes are usually a sign of bacteria infection from dirty water. Do a 50% water change right away. Always take the sick fish out and dose it in a small quarantine tank. This will save you on medication and will not create havoc on already established set-ups.

As for ich.... the recommended is either following the instructions for using the anti-ich medication or raise temp to 30, add salt and wait for 2 weeks. Ich typically occurs when there is a sudden drop in temp. Eg. Very hot for a few weeks and then suddenly rain like siao one day. So better to install a heater to prevent such drastic temp drop. Once the fishes survive one Ich episode, they are usually immune for the rest of their lives. Kinda of like chicken pox. But Ich may occur again if your water in the tank are not clean. Meaning never do water change, the water is choke-full of nutrients from overloaded tanks causing bacteria bloom aka cloudy water.
