    Hi,

Currently I have a smaller tank 30cm which my teenage son is maintaining.

Right now, he is having some issues with the mc constantly being uprooted
due to the corys. The white sand was also eventually covered with amazonia soil.
He actually wanted to do a full reboot of the tank but I think
a quicker way is to drain the water and work with the original contents.

    The steps I thought of:

    1) Drain water.
    2) Put fishes in spare small tank.
    3) Find some flexible plastic to form a boundary between the white and dark sand.
    4) Dredge up the middle portion (now covered with amazonia).
    5) Fill up with new sand and place more bigger rocks to ensure dark soil does not
    seeped into the white sand.
    6) Add more amazonia soil on top the mc.
    7) Pour back water.
    Put back fishes.

Besides the increase in ammonia, does the plan work?

    Any ideas are welcome!

The plan looks okay... just that with all the moving and addition of new soil, it will be best to let the tank run for a while to cycle again, then test the parameters to make sure everything is safe, before re-introducing the livestock.

How long have you had this tank?
Maybe a full revamp will sparkle new ideas and a new look.

Do you intend to replant everything?
adding soil on top of MC sounds ok... just be prepared that the cory will continue to uproot them.

Adding more soil on the other side might be a bit tricky...
if there is not much changes, you can do what you mentioned... but I think a full revamp is a better choice..

    Hi guys,

    Thanks for the answers.

The tank is about 1 year old. Just slight changes. The area on the right
is actually quite bald right now. May refill or form a small hill to make it
    interesting.

For a small tank, we spent a considerable amount of time and effort to get it to the current
stage. The tank was already rebooted once due to depth of amazonia soil. Hope
to enjoy it a bit longer as it took quite some time for the mc and grass to reach this stage.
