Hey ya guys, this has got to be one of my favourite tanks. Not only a splash of colours in the tank but the Ulvaceus is blooming non stop one after another. Stats r 3ft x 1.5ft x 1.5ft. Lighting is by matrix 4x36W. Substrate, ADA Amazonia Grey. And filtration by Eheim 2026. CO2 at 3bpm.

Here are a few pics of it almost a month ago. Tank was cloudy due to just an hr after set up.

    Regards,
    Phillip.

how are the Cyprinella lutrensis (the red shiner) doing? I hear they prefer hard basic water, the ADA stuff might be too acidic for them.

    Thanks.

The red shiners are doing exceptionally well in the tank. Have been eating absolutely great. They're quite hardy from my own personal experience. As the tank's in an air-con room, they seem more livelier as to what they require also, cool waters.

    Regards,
    Phillip.

Thanks bro, they're VERY lively not to mention cool blues on their bodies and a distinctive reddish pink hue on the males's heads. Definitely one of my favourites of the minnow family.

    Regards,
    Phillip.

PS: And they're constantly "begging" me for food!!~~!~!

I like the initial scape better for some reason (seem to have a focus)....The final one turn out rather flat though. Oh, 3bpm of CO2 is as good as nothing imo.

Agree with peter, the initial pic seems to have better depth.

My best guess is something to do with the echindorous urugayensis. The first one is shorter and fuller while the 3weeks later one, seems thiner and longer.

To me, this plant is the key to the depth of this scaping. Its the jungle path into the deeper region amidst the trunks and tree around it. You might want to change to java fern which look like the e. urugayensis in the first pic.

But, in times to come, the red lily shall break the concept spoken above.

Overall, I like the feel of wildness there, great job!

Here is an update as at 19th April 19th 2005. The azurea has developed tremendously and i did some trimmings to the vallis in the background as its growth was too overwhelming. Had to trim back the aponogetons also as the leaves were blocking the light to the lotus.

This tank has got to be one of my favourites as it's under the sun half a day and the rippling effect amongst the leaves are so calming and soothing to the eyes.

I always look forward to the weekends just to view the tank under the rays of the sun.

    Regards,
    Phillip.

What a masterpiece Philip, the usage of red plants are like bold splashes of paint on a picture. What happened to all the fishes later? Seems lesser to me. Btw,how come the tank is resting on the floor?
    Cheers,
    Andrew

    Thanks Andrew,

The lotuses are turning either deep green for the 4coloured lotus or juz deep red fr e normal red lotus variant. Same goes for my other species. The fishes are all there except that during the phototaking session, some of them didn't have the mood to pose for the camera. The tank seems like it's on the floor due to the high elevated angled view that i took the photo at.

    Regards,
    Phillip.

    Hi,

    Nice setup!!

Just a question. Is your tank sitting on the ground?

If so, is there difficulty with running the canister filter?

    Cheers!

Hi there, the tank is on a ledge elevated just beside my window. It was running on an internal filter actually. But i've a tank running with external canister filter which is on the floor. Flow rate is still the same.

    Regards,
    Phillipe.
