    Tubifex in shrimp tank

When setting up my shrimp tank initially, I kept some Malayan shrimps. I've fed them on flakes and tubifex worms(which was a mistake). The Malayan shrimp do eat the tubifex, but some must have creeped under the gravels.

Then I convert the tank to house more expensive shrimps like CRS, neon, cherry, etc, when the tank was stabled. The shrimps are growing and breeding well, but then the leftover tubifex have exploded. Whenever I put in algae wafer, all the tubifex appears and shaking their heads around the food.

Moral of the story, not all shrimps eat tubifex.

Now, introducing fish to the tank to eat the worms is out, as the CRS are breeding there. I'm thinking of maybe use dwarf cory, or coolie loach, to eat the tubifex. Any comment?

why not, they probably won't touch your shrimp.

The cory will work, but the loach goes after snails as well, so I'm guessing it's not the best thing for your shrimps.

I guess loach will "disturb" your shrimplets, so not recommended...

They will breed only if you don't want them to. I throw a bunch into my swamp themed tank, they just disappear....but then it may be the inhabitants of the tank making a quick snack, i would have thought they would last longer.

Maybe you can add a few malayan shrimp to take care of the worms, if you don't want them.

Quite cool to have these guys sticking their heads out and waving at you. I hear that their waste is toxic, is this true? or do they live in toxic waste rather?
