Lighting moods.

In this discussion, different usage of lighting illumination gives different ambience and also mood to the vivarium, paludarium or terrarium setups. Yellow lighting on one hand gives it a more subdue warm cosy feeling whilst white lighting gives it a more refreshing outlook and also highlights certain colours such as the reds and blues.

An example of such comparison is done on one of my setups. This one is a 2feet lateral Viva which i've had in mind either to be "fresh" or "warm cosy".

The first one shows a rather warm, mysterious glow upon the plants thus giving it more depth as it's output is by one main halogen bulb.

The same setup but using a 36W PL lighting. It totally changes the whole outlook making it much more "cleaner" n giving it that "fresh green" overall appearance.

So in all, different lighting plays an important role as to the finished look that ya're achieving. Partly also, the plants and their placement have roles in completing the style that ya're achieving for.

Certain plants may require high lighting and some don't. So to sum up, a lot of factors do play a part in a successful setup be it aesthetically or practical wise.

i prefer the warm light, gives the mood of a forest/jungle undergrowth with the sun penetrating the base of the canopy.

philip, whats the smallest vivarium u have right now?

Yes that's true, the yellow light appeals more to the masses as it provides a warm ambience. This applies also to any type of setup.

The smallest Viva that i have is a cube glass tank that measures 4inch by 4inch by 4inch.

I assume you have to keep them wet using water spray?

The idea is to minimalize hassle. Those small setups have covers ontop so as to keep the humidity levels high. As mosses are dependent on high humidity for survival and lush growth, the top is essential. Otherwise, frequent misting is needed if the top was eradicated.

And also, these land tropical mosses can't be too wet as they'll start to rot also. Overall misting every two days or three is enough to sustain the humidity levels in there.
