    Hi all Masters,

I am new to planted tank. Have been reading post here, finally decided to try a planted tank by myself. Now, I am in the stage of gathering all the necessary equipment. Hopefully, I can start my planted tank successfully. Please bear with me if I am asking lots of novice questions.

    Cheers

    Hi guys,

I bought a 60x30x45cm tank, and Heheim classc 350 filter. The pump rate of the filter is about 620l/hr, is it able to filter my tank efficiently. Or should i get a higher pump rate

Found this interesting website, to organise your fish tank, a preview of how it will look like (roughly) . http://www.2noodles.com/tank/organizer.html

Mine exactly the same size, with fully planted, my classic 250 flow looks like way too little now, in early stage when plants are short its ok, but now after 3 months and all the plants growing like crazy, I regret now.

I am planning to change the inlet to 16mm and reduce some of the media and see if that helps. I dont have any inline equipment and using spray bar, lily pipe outlet is even worse.

Trust me, you will look for my post after 2-3months and will regret classic 350.

If you have a chance to go for an output above 1000lph, go for it, dont worry it wont blow away your plants fish.

Its eheim classic 250, first time trying my hand at planted tanks. Thought of a whirlpool in the tank initially but plants and fish seem to like the flow, for 2ft given spray bar is too short, so there are still some dead spots on both ends of the spray bar, left and right side of the tank.

If still not satisfied with half media removal and 16mm inlet, next I am planning

Remove spray bar and use direct 9mm goose neck facing front wall

If all fails, I will go to eheim pro3 2071 or 2073, 1050lph and 1250lph respectively

If you change to 36cm, classic 350 might work....

Take note, dead spots=algae, considering planted tank higher flow rate is better than low flow rates...

After changing from lily pipe to spray bar 90%of algae gone from plants, now left a little on wood only hope it will be gone in few days....

I have braces on my tank so I cant position my lily pipe as I wanted, so its not worked for me...

If you have no reservations on the size of tank, I prefer you to go for the maximum size you can afford, the bigger the tank, the better for fauna and flora but not for your purse though.

I would caution getting anything larger than 4'x2'x2' for planted. Larger than that are time consuming to maintain.

That said, I have nothing against larger tanks, I have a 6'x2'x2'.

Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Tank bigger, supporting equipment also more expensive. I am running just a 2ft tank, it has already burn a big hole in my wallet.
