I had actually started this tank Feburary this year after gathering feedback what will be good for a small tank on my desk.
All along I wanted a small tank on my work desk beside my main planted tank with CRS.
I was thinking for a long while either to go for a planted with RCS or Sulawesi? Eventually go for Sulawesi due to the room temperate is too high for planted tank and evaporation is too out of control if I use a fan.
Since this was started a while back, I will let the photos do the talking
Found this tank at East Ocean, dimension fits well and is crystal glass, very good price
Equipments all ready
Decided to go for a clean look, so used white sand. Did a bit of scaping with the lava rocks and wood I have.

This video was taken about 2-weeks after I added the live stock.
This tank was doing well all along except for the planted, which slowly turned brown and disappeared....due to my high room temperature (about 31 degreeC)..
shrimplets were even spotted.
But.....as times goes, I regretted using white sand substrate.....look at this photo and see how dirty the look of the sand had became....

The thought of re-doing had been in my mind for a while...but it will be a tedious process and I do not have a spare tank to house my Sulawesi shrimps...
Eventually, I decided to take the risk.
I removed all the rocks
And transfer the Sulawesi shrimps out into a container. There were 3 shrimplets and 1 pregnant Sulawesi shrimps...
Removes all the sand and cleaned the tank.
Replaced the sand with Onyx Sand bought from fishy business and did some changes in the scaping. Really love the new look. Thanks to Fishy Business for the inspiration.
Within 20 minutes, the cloudy water turned cleared and I transferred the live stock back into the tank. The shrimps are still hiding behind the rocks, will update again when I have a better photo shots.

How do you maintain the water parameters for them ? Is there any soil that can keep high ph ?

Thats great to hear. Awesome. I was afraid of using tap water. As advised, by lfs. How much do u dose your 7.5? Lesser than recommended?
For my case, I only dose every week during water change.
I change abt 25% of water each week, and dose just slightly less than the 1st marking on the spoon that comes with it

2 catastrophes happened when I was trying to decomm the other 2 feet tank I have....
- First one (A super noob mistake)
I was trying to keep some plants and stock from the other tank alive, I used out all the pails I have.
Then I saw a pail lying around in the yard, without much consideration, I cleaned it and used it to prepare water for my weekly WC schedule of my Sulawesi Tank....
The following day, I saw massive amount of dead shrimps, then I began to realize my mistake....that pail!!
Quickly I rushed down to tackle shop and get some Active Carbon and throw 2 bags into the tank, did managed to salvage about 30 plus shrimps, but Harlequin were all wiped out....
I was having almost about 100 pcs of them....
- About 1-2 months later.....wiped out....(again by my wrong decision)
Again was due to the plants from my previous tank...while waiting for my new tank to arrive, I setup a mini nursery to keep the plants alive, but was not doing good...
So I tot of maybe keeping the mini fissident and S.Repen inside the Sulawesi tank...
A day after 2 weeks of WC, I woke up seeing the photos above....really no shrimps was left....
I realized a few things which I didn’t observed previously might have triggered this 2nd time....
- Probably some of the plants I put in are rotting....
- Flow rate was relatively slow > I didn’t do enough regular cleaning of the sponge at the filter inlet...
- High pH environment has low oxygen level > probably the rotting or the low flow rate further affects this...
While draining away the water, I found one survival...but it also didn’t last long...
I was in the midst of doing up the hardscape of my other new tank and these happened...so upset as my effort for more than a year was destroyed by 2 of my actions....
At that moment, I was really quite reluctant to do that setup again. Ended up I just filled it up with water, throw all the rocks in, and use it to keep some fish...

With the spare rocks leftover from my other new tank, I re-designed the look of this.
I decided to give a last try on Sulawesi Shrimp, this time with oxygen supply and have a schedule to regular clean the lily pipe inlet sponge.
I run the tank for another 2 months to stabilize the condition.
This round I have decided to go with:
- Sulawesi Mineral 8.5 for WC
- CRS Haven Mineral Max after WC
- Bacter AE and CRS Bacter Max on Alternate days.
Finally, my Sulawesi Shrimp Tank Reborn.

I love the latest iteration of your Sulawesi tank, a lot. More roots hanging over the rocks will look nice too.
I noticed that you have a diffuser in this tank. Are you using it with an air pump to get more oxygen into the tank?

Yes I am currently constantly supplying oxygen into the tank.
I read that high temperature has less dissolved Oxygen and low oxygen is not so good for High pH environment. (I can’t remember where I saw that, will share the link if I manage to find it).
The high temperature and high pH is exactly Sulawesi Tank characteristic, so I decided to give a constant supply of oxygen.

It has been a while since last updated.
The aquarium has developed well, probably I have ard a good number of 80 Sulawesi Cardinal Shrimps.
This is how my tank looks like currently, just did a water change
The Shrimps feed on Mulberry Leaves and some products I bought from CRS Haven
They are really shy and sensitive to movements, this is one of the moment I managed to capture with quite many of them gathering together

This shrimplet is small, but not the smallest I have seen
Comparing the shrimplet size to a Nerite Snail.
Here is how I do the maintenance
- 30% WC weekly with Sulawesi Mineral 8.0 with Anti-Chlorine using Seachem Prime.
- Some dosage of solutions I got from CRS Haven.
- Dosage of 1/4 spoon of Bacter AE every Mon/Wed/Fri
- Feeding only done on Wed/Sat (On alternate week, I will put Mulberry leaves instead, which will last almost a week)
- *IMPT* To remove and rinse lily pipe inlet sponge to prevent choke
- 4-Monthly filter maintenance
