    Dear all,

Anyone experienced the glass covering the MH set shattering? Mine just exploded and shattered into a thousand pieces. Most fell into the tank which I spent the whole night picking up the broken shards. Still got so many that I gave up and decided to leave them there. Is it the heat from the bulbs? Maybe China-made glass isnt very heat proof.

Any suggestions where I can find a glass shop to replace it?
    Thanks.

    Goondoo,

All 3x150w MH bulbs switched on as usual at 5pm. Then at 9pm, suddenly boom. No big fishes in the tank, dun think it is water splashes.

yup..hanging from the ceiling. The glass is a mixture of clear and frosted segments. Clear under the bulbs, frosted in between the bulbs.

could it have been water splash on the glass that cause it to shatter?

    Simon,

The set was hung a distance from the water level. Dun think it is water splashes.

Can I get a normal tempered glass to replace it, or is the UV shielding glass really necessary?

Any place where I can purchase those UV shielding glass?

    Thanks Chris.

Maybe the glass didnt have room for expansion within the casing. After prolonged stress, it shattered.

either that, or the glass isn't a tempered glass. Glass don't shatter for no reason

    Simon,

Definitely tempered glass. Hundreds of diamond shaped pieces. I can see the cracks running all across those bigger shapes which did not break up. If I am too rough with it while picking up from the tank, they will break along the lines into smaller pieces.

Really lucky that most of it fell into the tank. Will update once I have replaced it.

    c.y.

Bought this mh set 2-3 months back. The lfs told me glass no warranty, only ballast. Told me no spare part for glass. Warranty should cover the whole set. Moreover, the glass broke because of serious quality issue, not due to carelessness. Still negotiating with the lfs. They should do something about this. Told me to replace the glass at my own cost.

Meanwhile I am unable to switch on the MH due to the UV issue of the DE lamps.

Wow so serious. Imagine you are looking at your tank and the glass shattered, going to cause serious eye injuries. Better take more preventive measures even after you replaced your glass. Safety cannot be compromise.
    Glad that you are OK.

    Regards
