OK, I would try again this afternoon. Never say die!![]()
when wood dries the water inside evaporates...so air will take up the space that was once water... so if you leave the wood to dry...and it was a floater once before.. it will float again the next time it gets into water. quite logical actually..
i usually boil my floating woods for 6-8 hours straight...then immedaitely soak for an entire day in cold water..then repeat the next day... after that it usually sinks..

probably a stupid question but I am a beginner. What is a Dragon Jar? I can usually figure out most things that I dont know but this one baffled me (ok have a laugh on me I dont mind just please tell me)
i dont think anyone is laughing.. it is only understandable that you dont know what a dragon jar is..
It refers to a large Urn that the locals here usually know about.. usually made of a clay-like material, has many chinese dragons painted on the outside as decoration and probably about 2 - 2.5 feet tall.
I used to keep bettas and gouramis in these things..or grow amazon swords and lillies in them.
I was told those dragon jars are no longer made anymore. Saw many in older gardens, mansions. They always have water lilies and swordtails in them. They were used for storing pickled vegetables 'kiam chai' from China in the past. I've used a smaller version, brown coloured rather than greenish for growing amazon swords before.

i seldom have problem sinking DW (maybe i was lucky) but i always have great difficulties making bogwood sinks
anyone tried nailing some heavy duty IRON NAILS .... less conspicous ... ??
When the iron nails start rusting will it affect the water conditions?
I have one giant piece of bogwood which has alot of branches which i couldn't boil. Tied some rocks at the base with cabletie and hid it with nanas.
i'm abit paranoid about the nails being rusting in the tank. Feel kind of unsafe. I would rather weigh the wood down with rocks
Rusty nails=extra iron for the plantsI usually tied with cable tieds to rocks

fei miao, you mean the rustiness is actually good source of iron for plant? but are there any setback for it?
