Aggressive Amano shrimp

Dear all,

I've had Amano Shrimp in my tank for several years now, about five of them. More recently however I've noticed that some of them are quite aggressive.

I have observed one trying to eat a dying (but not dead) fish. As far as I know, this should not happen cause Amanos should only attempt to grab on to a fish if it is surely dead, right?
They also tend to be aggressive when fighting for food. I'm not sure if there are only one or two who are aggressive, or if all of them are.

I suspect it is partly cause they are the largest species in the tank (most of them are full size). Besides them I also keep Harlequin Rasboras, Cardinal Tetras, and Sakura Shrimp, and they are all smaller.

Is there anything I can do? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

i keep amanos regularly as well and some of them are quite aggressive towards food, but they will never harm another fish or shrimps.. i keep them with smaller fishes and sakuras, no damage so far..

on the amano catching the dying fish, anything rotting/decaying or a open wound is food for shrimps, i would not take such aggression seriously..

I had observed my amano shrimp eating my bloody mary when they are motling.

They hold the shrimp in their molting state to immobilised them. I sold all amano shrimp thereafter.

And yes i kept them well fed but i think they are best not to be mixed due to their size

I wouldn't keep Amanos with Neocardias due to size different. In the animal kingdom, big predator usually eat smaller prey (bar exceptions of course) so best not to keep these scavengers with each other.

In my planted tank, the resident Boesemani rainbows attack the Yamatos if they swim out in the open or high in the water column. Those who survive have learnt to hide. Survival of the fittest I guess?
