lava rock in shrimp tank

is it ok to put a lava rock[those porous brownish type] in a shrimp tank.
intend to use java moss to build around the rock for some scaping.

Lava rock is really good to grow moss on. I have used the red one (isn't there black rock as well ?) for most of my moss scaping. It gives fuller effect faster. Does not seem affecting KH / PH, but I suspect the red one may increase the iron. Maybe someone can verify ?

I think what you have are not Willow and Christmas but more like Java and Taiwan moss (or Taxiphyllum sp).
