Any idea how to raise PH permanently... i'm using ADA amazonia and seachem flourite.... i added a lot of buffer solution in hopes to raise PH but to no avail it drop back to 5
it has been constant at 5.... i have peat moss in my filter to buffer the PH but doesn't seem to work that well
my KH is currently at 2
i don't have anything in my tank except bogwood and taiwan moss... its growing very well and fast.

    Errrr.... lets see....
    1) peat moss will only bring your PH even lower . Use Baking soda to buffer PH and increase the KH.
    2) if you have been following the threads in AQ, we discourage the used of any buffering chemicals like PH up or PH down. They will not help you in long run, I had tested it before and it always sprung back after 1-2 days.
    Cheers and Regards,

i thought peat moss will soften the water and keep pH low?
if everything is growing well, why do you want to raise pH?
if you're afraid of pH swings, raise your KH... slowly though.

Actually using ADA amazonia Substrate, to my knowleadge that you dun really need peat moss in your filter. For my ADA Substrate, PH reads around 5.5. It good enough for my plants. All growing very nice. So no worry if your PH it low. Think u can just remove your peat moss from your filter will do and maintain your KH to 3.

You might want to add sodium bicarbonate to buffer it up

    Re

confirm its 5 with CO2 injection
without co2 its 5.5 but was trying out my new toys so testing out the cyclo turbo... ph drop to 5 within an hour.... =)
my KH at 2 now.... very stagnant... having problems bringing it up...
my priority is not shrimps but thinking of keeping around 10-15 CRS in the tank with my other fishes...
just sparing a thought for them before putting them into the tank.... actually its sparing a thought for my pocket....*grin*

have you tried adding some coral chips? They last quite a long time.
Oh, the rare old Whale, mid storm and gale. In his ocean home will be. A giant in might, where might is right. And King of the boundless sea.
