Cycling with 4 zebra Danio

Hi everyone,

I am doing a fish cycle with 4 zebra. Today is the 5th day already. I have zero ammonia about 0.21mg/l of nitrite but 0 nitrates. Am I doing it right? I added some bactergen.F freshwater microbe culture from Continuum during the first 2 days and stopped since.

Yesterday i went home my nitrate shoot up to 67mg/l and nitrite to 5.67mg/l and ammonia still zero. I quickly do a water change and the nitrate drop to 21mg/l and nitrite drop to 3.78mg/l.

This morning Nitrite becomes 1.62mg/l and Nitrate become zero.

I know strip test can be inaccurate but can the error be that big?

How accurate will it be if i use the API master test kit? Does it depends on where i take my sample in the tank? must it be near the bottom or can just take a sample near the surface?
