    Hi,
I was asking to custom made a 2ft Cube tank (10 mm glass) and LFS quoted price starting from S$160 to S$228 whereas branded Bioplast is S$400. Is the quality different worth its price?

Branded tanks... not worth it, in my opinion.

Get them done locally by reputable tank makers. If you have specific requirements as to the glass type, etc, request and see if they can accomodate you. Just inspect the display goods at their shops or showrooms to see if you're happy with their quality and design.

LFS quality may not be good either, you need to find out exactly what kind of glass, and quality of workmanship, including silicone usage.

in my opinion, those who boast of manual silicone application skills being very terrific and don't use machines to apply silicone end up with results leaving much to be desired, this coming from seeing a couple of tanks like that.

Having recently bought 2 new tanks, one thing I am sure of is that good quality and workmanship definetly comes with a price.

The best way of getting the right stuff is to ask around for opinions, visit their showroom, see their end products and guage for yourself. Ultimately, you must satisfy yourself in terms of quality and budget.

How many type of glass suitable for making tank?

    Thanks for all the opinion.
Asked a few LFS, the price of such tank about +/- S$200 but branded cost double the price. Honestly, it's not worth it unless the quality/workmanship is so noticeable such as ADA starphire glass tank. This tank itself with some water filled is already a beauty. Nevertheless, one has to go at its own budget.
By the way, how many type of glass available for tank making... Float Glass, Starphire Glass, and any others??

only you can decide whether it is worth the price. visit lfs to see the build quality of local tanks and gauge from there.

I find my branded Juwell tank worth it for the way the silicon is done.
It is black, neat and thick. The glass is thick and strong and looks good.

Only down side is the hood that comes with it only allows 1 FL light tube.
I have since modified it to house 2 PLs.

May want to consider things like heat management with branded tanks that come with hood also.

    Regards

Thanks and that set me thinking.....
So far gathered some info after asking around for a 2ft cube tank + cabinet + light set.
    LFS 1 = S$768
    LFS 2 = S$670
    Bioplast = S$850 (Germany made)
If you would me , would you go for Germany made one?

initially I wanted a bioplast tank as well, except they don't have starphire glass, so I contacted a couple of local tank makers around all the forums... of course some of you may have heard my nightmare story with my tank maker on sgreefclub, but other than a huge waste of time and worry at my end , I finally got my tank back.

I suggest you go check out the tank makers at arofanatics and check for reputations and view their samples/portfolios.

Thanks for your input. Did you ready made a tank using starphire glass here in Singapore? Wow, any tank maker can do this, please recommend.

I would first check on the quality of the Bioplast cabinate. For me my wife love the Nisso curve corners, so that is the final decision. As for branded verses LFS, brand give the basic bases of quality, LFS can have good quality ones, but you have to take time to weed out the bad ones.

With your above pricing, if everythingelse is equal in quality, I will without second though go for Bioplast. I think 15 - 30% more for brand values helps to go a longer way.

I totally agree it takes sometime to "figure-it-out" the bad from the good ones. A branded name at least give some assurance. By the way, did you actually brought Bioplast tank and would you a satisfied customer? Also, the lead-time is 2 months ship from Germany.

you can view my tank on my website, alternatively my latest tank posting at aquascape...
    *ok: I'm a horrible aquascaper*

whoever your tank manufacturer is, you can always order starphire glass from http://www.ssg.com.sg/

you can ask them for starphire, but I'm not sure if their luxar series is better than starphire, or whether their low iron glass is also known as starphire

if you want to be even more adventurous, you can even commission betta barracks made with.

No I bought the Nisso curve corners which is very nice, the glass is super thin and clear. It is also very light, I can handle the tank myself when empty. As for my Nisso tank, yes very satisfied customer. As for prices, just for comparison, My Nisso 3ft is 130 compared to rainbow 3ft which is curve corners as well at 110. LFS do not make curve corners ones, so can't compare these.

2 months lead time is a long time to wait.

I'm afraid I must disagree, superthin glass is just a way manufacturers cut cost. if you check out the larger (5ft+) j**** tanks that are filled with water, you will notice slight bowing, if the bracing should give way, the tank will explode.

generally up to 6ft, I would say a 12mm thick glass is needed at the least, thus the need for optically clear glass like starphire for photography.

Wonder if you are referring to J***o, if that is the brand I won’t consider it. Its positioning as a brand to me is terrible. As for the Nisso 113, I’m really not sure what kind of glass is that, but many speculations are tempered glass. As for bowing when filled, for the 3ft, I didn’t notice anything of that sort. The comparison of rainbow brand tank which was using 12mm glass super heavy, I can’t even lift up one side with both hands, I went with Nisso. Only time with tell about the thickness of the glass for my Nisso 113. So far I have never heard a single complain (as in leaking and whatever) on Nisso tanks.

I notice on your website you have a Rainbow looking tank, so how is that? As for the technology in starphire, I can only admire as I said earlier, wife likes Nisso curve corners so decision is final.

Hi Chris, been to your website and one of your photo (see photo, which one is made from starphire glass? Just wonder normally for 2ft Cube tank, if using 3 sides 2ft using Starphire glass. how much will be the extra? Assuming I make 2ft cube tank for $160 using normal glass. Whether my budget allows ??
