Have you tried growing the stiff-fronded Selaginella that is often missold as an aquatic plant?
The Selaginella or Spikemoss as they're commonly known as have a few varieties of which is available in the local (Sg) nurseries. Below are some of which is highly reccommendable for it's easy maintenance and relatively beautiful fronds.
1. Selaginella Uncinata. ( Peacock or "Rainbow" Spikemoss )
Notice the blue-green iridescent leaves of the Rainbow Spikemoss.

The Peacock or Rainbow Spikemoss gets its name from its blue-green iridescent colours on its leaves. It's an undemanding plant loving low shady light with moist conditions and given time will spread to provide a lush beautiful ground cover. It can also be trained to grow on the back wall.
Maintenance: low.
Lighting requirements: low
Overall Rating: An easy plant for the beginner.

Yes, i've tried growing them emmersed and also submerged. This other variant apparently grows much faster emmersed than compared to submerged. When submerged for too long, the fronds will turn yellowish in colour and thus disintegrate. Not meant as an aquatic plant. Sadly to say, some others species are also facing the same problem and quite often sold to those who're unaware of the nature of these plants.Originally Posted by budak
