I just bought a Ikea halogen light set, intending to use it as lighting for my 17cm Nano tank.

Well, perhaps it was because of all the lights there, but when I got home and tried it out, the light was orange instead of white in colour, which isn't good at all.

I surfed the net for some info, and it seems there are white halogen bulbs available in the market, those "bright white, xenon" type. However, I've no idea where to get them in Singapore. Does anyone know? I'm looking for something like this.

    Thanks a lot!

Wouldn't these type of light be too hot? I find them more suitable for temperate climates than in Singapore.

    Cheers,

Yes, very hot. That's why I'm now kicking myself in the butt for buying it. Don't know if it's suitable for vivariums.

Anyway, are there such things as white halogen bulbs? I went over to Home-Fix, and all they had was yellow ones. I saw halogen bulbs for cars that were "bright white" but they didn't fit the rating for 12V, 20W.

    Sigh.

I don't think so. Perhaps you can consider the short PL tubes instead? 9W and 11W.

I have been using the ikea table lamp for my 5-gal tank. It works great. I kind of like the warm feel.

Actually I was trying to mimic Tropica's Aquacube which uses halogen lamps too.

    Tropica's version:

Hmmm, may I know how much the ikea lamp costs? I'm planning a nano tank setup.

bclee, but your's is white! Mine's really orange, like those incandescent bulbs.

Right now I know there are white halogen bulbs out there, it's only the matter of finding them. Maybe I'll have to go down to those car shops or Sim Lim Tower or something..
