I found this plant along a stream in the Central Catchment area. Does anyone recognise this plant (emeresed form) ?

If I'm not mistaken it is Cabomba sp.

Thanks for your suggestion but I am very sure this is not emersed form of Cabomba.

Hmm... I may be wrong, but my cabomba had emersed leaves that looks almost identical; and I have seen cabomba 'climbing' onto a log from the water and growing in a clump like as in your picture.

I think he meant to say some kind of Bacoba sp. instead of Cabomba It has a minty smell with purple flowers. Or it could be a similar type to Limnophila Aromatica. There should be a scientific name for it as this plant can be found everywhere in Singapore. I have tried growing it submersed but it grows too fast and long to my liking. But the green is very nice! I hope a botanist or someone could enlighten me on the correct name for this plant.

Oops, you may be right that its a Limnophila sp. I just took out my 'cabomba' and compared it with a picture of Limnophila sessiliflora and realise that it may be a Limnophila. Did further reading and confirm that it cannot be cabomba. Ah... and I had mistaken its identity all these while... sorry

Thanks for all the replies. I am now growing it in my tank. Hopefully the submersed form will be easier to ID.

Is it very common in Singapore ? So you have grown it submersed. Does it look the same as the emersed form ? any photos ?

This is my first time posting a picture. If it does not comes out, please guide me

The plant is located on the right side, above the star grass. The 2 or 3 long stalk is the fully submersed version of it.

How long has it stayed submersed? Is it growing?
I saw it in the catchment area before but I thought it is a land plant.

I have the same plant in my tank. Submerse for close to 3 month and growing. Not very fast growing and take quite some time to convert from emmerse to submerse.

The plant has been ID by Singapore Botanical Graden herbarium as Limnophila villosa from the family Scrophulariaceae.
I am interested in this plant because it is a food plant for the caterpillar of a species of butterfly I am researching.

I had one plant in my tank but it was eaten up by either snail or one of my fishes. I have planted another one and will post a picture once it has developed submersed leaves.
