flat pendant is only one of the features. it's also about dimmer eballast and controller/computer right?

if only flat pendant, me working in consumer electronics industry. i am sure the mechanical people in my company can create the flat pendant without problem. they have come up things more fancy all the time. but only if you have such a friend who can do this. it's not really expensive and difficult. but if you talk to a business contractor, i am sure he will charge you very high.

i also dun think any LFS is a place to go since because they are not specialised in mechanical work and will charge you very high price.

    Cheers,
i was thinking about those home design/decoration contractor. sometimes they do customize light, either for home decor or commercial decor. you see those pendant lights unit in jewelry/watch shops? they come quite close.

but i still believe LFS is not place to go.

That is quite cool, isn't it? The design also take care of the heat build-up by putting the 3 PC fans (see photo). Very neat.

Wow!, the price seems very reasonable. That set me wondering why Aquarium lighting is so expensive???

Exclamation T5 light last longer and more light than normal MH?

Is this true that T5 light last longer and give more light than a normal MH?

And I suppose they're not as hot as MH and therefore no chilier needed. So, T5 light is gooooooood..

The lifespan for T5 tube and MH maybe be up to 1 1/2 year but we normally change the T5 tube every 7-9mths and for MH can be up to 1 year.

Yes, T5 are cooler than MH but T5 are not that cool as what many believes.
The heat generated is about the same as PL but many aquarist thought that T5s are cooler than PLs light

    Thanks for your comments.
Does T5 give more light than MH?
If T5 has so many advantages over MH or PL then it should be the prime choice for any planted tank aquarist!

Getting the T5 tube , ballast and connector is easy. But the reflector is another thing. Anyone saw any full coverage reflector that is less than 10cm wide and 3 cm high??
The ballast for that light should not be within the pendant that's why it look so slim. Anyway I think a dimmable ballast is going to set you back big time.

    P.S. a T5 tube is just 5 cm shorter; meaning a 2 feet tube is 45cm etc.

For 2ft tank, would 3 x T5 tube (3 x 24W) be okay if it is high Output (HO) type? It seems to be T5 tube is very new in the market!

    Question What is T5?

For the benefits of member, reproduced this information as follows:-

T5 - A short phrase, which has sparked much debate recently, but what are the facts?

    What does T5 actually mean?
The 5 is obviously relevant, and being as so much has been spoken about how much better these are than average fluorescent tubes, then surely it must refer to an aspect of the light which is five times greater - probably the strength of its output, or maybe its effective distance, or expected lifespan.

This is the understandable, but incorrect conclusion that many people draw. What the 5 actually refers to is an aspect of the tube that your fish, or invertebrate livestock, could not care less about - its diameter.

Technically, any fluorescent tube should be referred to by the letter T followed by a number. That number indicates the diameter in 8ths of an inch, so the one inch diameter tubes that most of us are familiar with are T8 (eight 8ths of an inch), and the fatter tubes that used to be the standard, and that are still used by some are T12.
So T5 actually only means a light with a diameter of 5/8s of an inch.

    So why all the fuss?
Small 12" long, 8Watt tubes have been on the market for a long time - these are only 5/8 of an inch diameter, but they don't appear to be any more powerful than a regular tube. The reason being that these are regular output T5 lamps - when talking about the new type of lamps, we should strictly speaking refer to them as high output T5's, and it is the high output part that really makes the difference - producing a light of much greater strength than a conventional tube, and as a result the energy input into the aquarium is greater.
Also, light diminishes very rapidly as it travels through water, but with T5 lamps the effective distance is significantly greater than with conventional tubes, meaning that deeper aquariums can be maintained with an illumination that is effective to the base.

Are you refering to High Output (HO) type? I checked with NA, the lenght of the T5 (2ft) actually goes all the way from one end of light casing to another end (covering full 2ft).

    I seen it myself, really!
