5ft tank update

Nice to see you back in action juggler!

Just an added comment which I notice as Aqua Scapers "mature" (for lack of a better word

).
The choice of plants usually moves away from stems and "weed" plants (i.e. E. tennellus) to rosetta ones.
Much easier on the maintenance!

But your tank is still lush.
Maybe a little more drift wood might help?

Yeah. It's about time, after 5 yrs, to revamp the aquascape.

I am still bad with driftwoods. Will try to incorporate it if I come across some nice pieces. BTW - I do have driftwood in there but tied with ferns.

Have to find a balance between hobby and family. So I choose plants that have lesser maintenance to make the aquascape viable for long term.

Will keep you guys posted on the progress.

Hi KF,
Just imo, it would be great if there's a big E. rubin or similar type in the tank.

I agree to a major revamp, nevertheless, it's a great looking tank, going on for 5 years.

Don't say your bad bad with driftwoods/stones la. To managed tanks this size and have plants growing beautifully is a extremely tough and challenging effort. Not many people have these kind of success. Enjoy it !

My 5 yr old substrate was filled with decaying roots, debris, and the assumed depleted base fert. So I figured that I need to change them.

Did you need to do something to the substrate in this 5 yrs? For instances, wash them, change them totally, or just stick some balls of fert inside etc.

Gosh, a pity the old scape is down. Seen that scape personally and find it really good. Nice and happy fishes too. Hope to have a chance to view it personally when the new scape mature

I am lazy so I didn't change the substrate. Left it as it is.

Possibly earlier there were a lot of Anubias on driftwood. So maybe base fert not totally depleted yet. And also a lot of mulm has accumulated (can see on the right side of tank). Will stick in some fertiliser sticks or laterite balls later for the heavy feeders. I also believe a lot of nutrient absorption are through the leaves, so I will fertilise as per normal.

I am really impressed that you can go 1 year without changing fish water, does this occur only for heavily planted tank?

I heard ocassional change of water is good for the fishes, is that true?

Whoah! Rainbow fishes are not small? They're one of the few striking fishes that i could never picture properly in a planted environment simply due to their size. Your tank dwarfed them nicely and i must say it gave me a whole new perspective when thinking of rainbow fishes! The size of the overall setup is massive considering i'm used to mostly 2footers,makes me wanna get up and start a huge tanks such as yours. It must've made your day after returning home from work every night!

Koah Fong, that is a very nice tank. It reminds me of Eco-Culture's 5 or 6 feet (?) display tank when they were at Eminent Plaza. Memories are made of this...

I wonder Teo Farm has any Cyperus helferi. Last time they gave me a chinese name which has something to do with Thailand.. You can try your luck at C328.
