its normal for new wood, its either fungus or sap from the wood. You can siphon it or put Otos or/and yamato shrimp will eat it.
Hi, I just started this tank a week ago and a few days in I noticed these white cotton like stuff growing on the driftwood. After a few days it spread to some of the plants. Is this some sort of algae? How do I get rid of it? Thanks.

Or you can just do nothing and leave it alone. It will disappear in about month or two. However, please do note, those will clog CO2 indicator which means you cannot monitor CO2 level with the indicator.
Take the wood piece out and scrape it will help a lot. But too most people, it is just impossible as it needs to move the hardscape. Last point....those fungus smells bad after leaving water.....just keep them in the tank.
