I decided to start my first tank to keep me sane during this period. Day 10 of my natural tank, no CO2, no fert, >70% plants survived, some pearling and some growth - which is better than expectation.
1. However I saw some detritus worms the other day, and seems they are increasing. While I tried to change water daily and clean the gravel with a gravel cleaning hose, I could not keep changing water because I dechlorinate by letting tap water out for 24hrs and having water bowls lining up my balcony everyday is not desirable.
2. I think some brown algae are creeping up as they shown on the rubber cup holding my thermometer.
For both issues I think they stemmed from decaying plants as the tank hasn't reach balance, tap water not fully cleaned...
=> Solutions:
1. Seachem Safe/Prime to help the water change regime, save me some time too.
2. Cheapo hang-on filter to get rid of flying and decay particles.
3. Snail/Shrimp to fight the algae and increasing number of detritus worm.
For solution (3) - I'm hitting the wall right now![]()

. Are there anyway to find some snail and shrimp? I don't even need the fancy ones... If selling and buying are not possible, can trade or giveaway happen?

I believe u understand wrongly.
Those are gravels, which contain no nutrients for the plants. U will need to dose fertz to ensure there are constant supplies of minerals to support the growth of your plants

Thanks for this. I do have potting soil under the gravel. It's an el natural/Walstad tank. Day 20 and 90% survived and growing albeit with no CO2. The hair grass grew only in height though, and need trimming every 3 days as they reach the surface (grew 2-2.5cm a day). I will need some S. repens which hopefully could grow on gravel.

No idea how to pm, i think due to post count not enough currently.
