    Hi,

I recently taken a 2nd hand tank from my uncle. It is a 4x2x2 tank used to keep arowana. As we can see in most arowana tank, the frontal glass panel also have a strip of black oyama paper on the top. I find that unsightly and a waste of depth(3 inches). How am I able to remove the oyama without damaging the glass or removing the marks left behind.

On the top center bracing glass panel, my uncle used to put the 2 heavy glass covers to prevent aro from jumping out. This results in a line of rough texture on the panel in between both covers. How do I remove the rough texture.

    Thanks.

Sorry, moderators. May have posted in the wrong section.

for the first one, if you rip off oyama paper, some of the glue may stick. I'm not certain if thinner or acetone (nail polish remove) may help remove that.

as for the second, its probably calcium deposits of some kind, vinegar will help with that.

    No worries, moved.

You should be able to just peel the Oyama away.

As for removing the rough deposits... if you have not set up the tank, try using vinegar and a good greenwool (get those 3M ones that claim not to scratch stove surfaces).

I was told lighter fluid (those that comes in refill cans) can be used to remove the sticky stuff. Never tried before though.

    Hi,

I have tried using vinegar. It did clear away the rough texture however white stenchs still remains on the glass panel. It's smooth though, no rough texture. Even tried using nail polish but still remained. Think it have eaten into the glass.

For the oyama, it's removed easily.

    Thanks

well, unless you want to try something stronger than hydrochloric acid.

look for toilet mosaic cleaner, (around $2 from ntuc). these are dilute hydrochloric acid (about 2% concentration). wear some plastic gloves , put a small amount on a tissue and then rub. then use damp paper towels/tissue to clean up..

use a good strong masking tape, stick it over the oyama residue and peel, the masking tape will stick the residue off.

Actually for sticky stuff...you can just use normal cooking oil.. rub over...then soap it to remove the oil along with sticky stuff..

some surface cannot be treated with liquid, eg paper or book cover, then the only way is sticky tape
