Hi people,

I seen fishes (Eg. Shrimps, Scarlet Badis...) sold in plastic bags and was wondering if they are quarantined by the fish store before selling? Or you could share your experience with these purchases!

I though the fishes in tanks are quarantined beforehand but i did seen some diseased cichlids( they swim sideways on the surface; probably swim bladder disorder) being sold!

From my experience they don't seem to quarantine their life stocks.
I usually had some with diseases and some very healthy one, it's a luck of draw when you buy from Nanyang Trading Aquarium.
On the side note it's cheap though.

If you don't want to risk introducing life stock with diseases, you can head down to Green Chapter or Aquatic Avenue, I believe their life stock are quarantined before selling.
However it's more costly, and I suggest you setup a 10 gallon quarantine tank before introducing into your main tank to avoid introducing pathogens and other harmful bacteria.

Oh and btw do you stay near north west area?

I guess i will continue buying livestock from LFS and accessories & plants from Nanyang. I am a pretty lazy person so i tend not to quarantine my stuff (Yeah i know, it is quite risky).
I was looking to buy some golden back yellow shrimps and mosquito rasboras from Nanyang but those few diseased fishes are really discouraging!

Your guess is pretty close...

You can try visiting That Aquarium at Khatib for shrimps theirs are quite healthy and cheap for Neocardina Shrimp.

I stay at Sembawang very near you!

What type of tank do you keep?

As my water pH is 6-7, i keep a 50 gallons with some low tech plants such as java fern and amazon frog bits with Qian hu black gravel. Livestock includes 1 male betta, many yellow neocaridinas and a school of 20-ish harlequin or lambchop rasboras (i can't remember which species i bought).
