I believe that the ADA tubes should be 8000K.

Should be the Hitachi or NEC ones. Kelantan lane has them.

I think there was a previous discussion on it and Koah Fong was looking at these too.

    Cheers,

    Hmm, what previous discussion?

I have use these FL tubes before: Hitachi EBT & Philips. As long as rated daylight 6500K is fine with me. Can get from almost any h/w shop.
Most of my setups are now using PL tubes. They are Osram 6000k.

you need not go for branded fl tubes. some of these branded fl tubes may just be 'rebadged' tubes.

normal fl does the job well enough. cost effective and easily replaced every 6 month without 'pain'.

i like the ADA NA15W, but rather expensive.
The plants seems to look nicer and grows better as compared to PL lights.

    you're right peter...i'm using 2 ADA NA 15W for my 2ft tank....

    what i found out:
    1) ADA NA - 8000K
    2) Arcadia - 7500K
    3) NEC - 7500K - 9000K

the spectrum of the bulb makes a huge diff on the growth of the plants... Hitachi tubes have caused tremendous algae growth in my tank in the past.....so far no algae prob usinf ADA tubes...I got my tubes at a good price during Aquarama

there is a visible color diff when u on 9000K, 8000K and 7000K tubes....

ADA tube gives a more natural color, NEC has a more reddish tone....

Get the NEC tri-phosphor tubes with 6700k. Price is cheap compared to the branded once mentioned here.

Do we have an estimate of the difference in prices of these tubes vs its efficiency?
