It has happened to me before....I added 5 drops of some micro nutrients for my tank....next day, all my 30-40 shrimps all died. I laid them out and they all formed a row of corpses..like some mass death from some concentration camp....very sad.![]()
ARGH!!!!!
I feel horrible!
This is what i did:
I was extremely fed up with seeing BBA on my substrate.
I net out the whole top layer and put it in a tub.
Then I pour in Hydrogen peroxide![]()
Burn the algae it did![]()
I left it for a week. Then I ONLY RINSE IT FOR 4 TIMES!!
STUPID mistake!!!
After that I pour everything back into the tank.
Then came the dreadful moment.
The shrimps rushed to their deaths.
They went to eat all the dead BBA but alas, the BBA still has hydrogen peroxide on it since it is soaked for a week.
They then started dying one by one everyday for the whole week.
I got to witness consequences of the horrible dead I perform for a week.

Haiz bro.......
dont know what to say....sorry for the loss
Hydrogen peroxide decomposes to just H2O and O2, so some other reason killed your shrimp. Cheer up, you're only guilty of manslaughter.
Oh, the rare old Whale, mid storm and gale. In his ocean home will be. A giant in might, where might is right. And King of the boundless sea.
I find that to deal with BBA on non organic objects such as rock, substrates, or aquarium decorations, the best/safest way is to use boiling water. Soak it there for a ten to twenty minutes will be sufficient. And just rinse with cold water and you can put it back into your tank. Can also be used on decorative driftwood if you have no plants tied to it.
Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
Benny, i tried saoking some in boiling water.
The BBA turns from black to light grey but they refuse to be removed from the gravel.
However, when I dump them back into the tank, the shrimps happily ate them

Yes. Using boiling water will kill the BBA, but not remove them. They will drop off by themselves after a short while. Or, your shrimps can finally eat steamed BBA as it's softer and more palatable.Originally Posted by robin

Yeah My shrimps seems to be enjoying it before the hydrogen peroxide ordeal.
