I have mini moss and weeping moss in my tank. Mini moss, I got it from Gen-
X in Marine parade. First time I got it, it was in the loose form...but I thot he gave me weeping moss instead because it looked like my weeping that I got somewhere else. I went back again and buy those mature ones on the mesh. When I got it, it has this short stubby look, hence, very appropriately called mini moss. After keeping in my tank for a while. I realized that it begins to look very much like my weeping moss again. Has anyone any experience with this? I think mini moss is just weeping moss being kept at a certain condition. Are they the same thing?. The fronds looks very much alike. Even the way the new shoots grow is the same.

The common names of the mosses are meaningless, as they change their appearance depending on the water condition. Many mosses look the same when grown in poor conditions though.

Common names are not very helpful, when everybody calls whatever moss he finds as he likes.. Perhaps this article (http://sea.nus.edu.sg/aquatic-mosses.pdf) might be helpful.

    budak,
Thanks for the link. Interesting article

However I beg to differ. Calling the wrong name is one thing, and calling it by the common name which is accepted by everyone is another.
Imagine if we have to call guppies "Lebistes reticulatus" or "Poecilia reticulata"...this would indeed be a mouthful. I don't even know how to spell most of them. We normal people here, our latin cannot swim one.

Well, shakesphere said (while shaking his spear), "What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” I am sure he had mosses in mind too...

    Ah siao,
Sorry, no pics...cos my camera broke down and I am waiting for that fx8 to come out so that I can rush down to buy :P

weeping moss has hicker leaves while mini moss has leaves thinner than taiwan moss though the shape is similar...triangular shape.

    Hi Panther,
I suspect that you have the hdb moss (singapore moss) instead. See this thread:
    http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ht=taiwan+moss

    http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ht=taiwan+moss

At the start of the taiwan craze...there were many people that claim they have taiwan moss. Hence, there was much confusion.

I was there last saturday....and I saw the "mini moss" that you are referring to. That is definitely not mini moss. It is probably a variant of the singapore moss. As of now, I am not sure if there is such a thing as mini moss.

For a pic of taiwan moss...look here.
    http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ht=taiwan+moss

Chan....everyone likes him. But I don't think he knows his mosses. Really, someone should tell him. It has been months...and he is still selling those as taiwan moss or mini moss...confusing everyone.

    Bro Rocket,

I agree Chan has sold mosses that may not truly be what they are supposed to be.
I once bought taiwan moss when he told me it was mini moss too.

My taiwan moss is the same as what you have identified to me. The Mini moss are much smallet than taiwan moss and also slower growth rate with tighter distribution of stalks of leaves. Too bad I do not have the pics to show, else will be easier to clarify for everyone. IMO hobbyists like us would probably simply identify the mosses by the names given and not the scientific names thus causing confusion. Nevertheless, let's continue to help the forumers out in this education process...evryone will benefit.

    Cheers.

Got my camera....this is the pic of the "mini" moss and my weeping moss.

slight diff in the color...as the "mini" moss is directly under my MH. Otherwise, looks very similar.
