when planting or cleaning with our bare hands in tanks, would there be any risks of getting infected by the pathogens in the tanks???
A bit of phobia nowadays when i "tidy up" my tanks.
Any doctors or biologists here care to enlighten? thanks.

Just don't lick your fingers afterwards or insert them into bodily orifices and you'll be fine. But avoid exposing open wounds/cuts to the water, as there is a small risk of tuberculosis. See this site: http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/...er_FishTB.html.

    OMG!!

I seems to have symtoms close to this...."The bacteria can also infect bones and tendons that can feel like arthritis ".

For the past one or two wks, I have this persistent pain at the back of my neck at the cervical spine region.
Some of the fishes in my tank have developed crooked spine too
I think I should go see a doctor to check it out, before i start to come in contact with the water again.
    thanks for the info.

btw, is there anywhere to get a pair of LONG rubber gloves, long enough to cover the arm above the elbow

Was told that such long gloves are available.

If not, just drain the water to mid level to work on the tanks with shorter gloves.

To be honest, most of the hobbyist don't borther. But better to be safe than sorry.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?
