Open tank for me. Well, unless u have an air-conditioned room or chiller, a closed tank may prove too warm for plants and some fishes.

open tank. I used to have a hood (ie: its just a Open concept hood so as to cover the eurobracing when taking photos, but (due to some crappy thing with my tank maker) I no longer have one, I don't miss it, since I crop the photos anyway.

I'm using a 2 ft open tank (cos these tanks don't come with covers leh...) and I like it this way. Easy to work with and no need to wipe the dust on the covers every few days.
I once owned a 4 ft wood cabinet marine tank but one year later all the metal parts (hinges, etc) started to rust eventhough it was "stainless steel" !

I've come across an article on the net that "it is advisable to have a cover if one is using CO2 tank.." I guess that is to contain the COs as much as possible (right?) . However the Aurthor of that article reside in the USA which has a much colder climate.

Cover has no affect on CO2 good or bad.

As I am using a pair of pendant MH lights position about 1ft from the water, and my tank is not that far from my small TV , my family prefer that I blocked the top-front from my tank so watching TV is more comfortable for our eyes.

I still manage to maintain my tank's temperature below 27 running 2 AC fan simultaneously when the lights are on. only during very warm season it might go slightly above 28, which I think is very reasonable.

How do your hang your lights?

With an open concept, how do you hang your lights over the tank?

Free suspended or using plastic stands resting on the sides?

I personally like the free suspended ones but wondering how to hide the ugly wires.

What about the shape of tanks? do anyone go for curved edges instead of the normal right angle edge of the tanks?

    Cheers,
    Adi99

suspended, gives you the most freedom in arranging height of the lights.

right angle edge. curve edge more expensive when you're talking 12-15mm glass.

    Bro,

Any pic to share how you suspend the lights and hide the wiring?

some wiring is inevitable, you can always get an electrician to do trunking and install a power point on the ceiling for the lights, the two wirings suspending the lights cannot be hidden. if you want, you can paint them white, but you may have problems changing the height (paint will flake off when the wire flexes/twists)

Thanks bro for the link. The wiring like that looks fine to me.

Is there any look-alikes in our LFS for this kind of lights? How much will that cost roughly?

Sorry to divert the topic a bit.... :P

close tank for me. cover can be DIY to keep the tempreture down. My tank is a cover tank and i have DIY it to half open concept for ventilation. and my AC fan would keep the temp to 26.
