So far most of the people whom I known and keeping aquarium as hobby, especially planted once are non smoker, somehow there may be a relationship since aquatic hobby tence to help one destress therefore chances are we do not need cigarette for destress.... It would be most interesting to know how many of us here are non smoker.

Please cast your vote if whether you are a smoker or non smoker.

P.s. this has no discrimination whether you smoke or not.

    Cheers!

    Non-smoker basically.

But when the fishes die, then may be one stick.. Again, my fishes so far never die because the planted tank make them live happily...

So, the conclusion, not a smoker!

No need to smoke for me.

Green dust or other types of algae gives me stress but changing water (doing work) relives me of these stress.

During hectic time, the tank can also be a source of stress. Still, changing water helps to relief stress.
    Cheers,
    Andrew

I added a poll for you. But it's an anonymous poll.

Non-smoker. And I find that cigarette smoke (not the smoker) agitates me.
The more I am stressed, the more I juggle - very relaxing.

I'm agitated by the habits of smokers... like stubbing out their cigs on plastic and melting them, like on trash bins and toilets seats and walls... damages property and makes things ugly. Leaving their ashes on the floor in front of the toiletbowl, stairwells.

If they want to kill themselves, it's not my problem, but I wish they would be considerate to the people and property around them.

I know some, like Simon, try to be considerate.

If you've a smoking neighbour above your flat, who lets the ashes drop out of the window and into your flat...

I 'caught' the culprit the other night, could see his bedroom window from my kitchen window. Yup, the flat right above mine.

I asked very nicely, "Excuse me, when you smoke, can you not let the ashes drop out of the window? It's getting into my flat." (That's closed to midnight!)

He apologised and I thanked him. But I still see ashes around (minimal though) and just saw him doing it again, earlier this afternoon.

If your flat's below mine, then it's possible. But I doubt cos I was told an air stewardess lives there.

I've nothing against smokers, except that they shouldn't smoke and forget that there're other earthlings around them.

I was a smoker for 15 years. My last stick was on 16 Dec 2004 and had managed to stay smoke-free since. I will never dare say I have quit smoking till the day I die cos I'm never sure when I will ever pick it up again.

Anyway, maintaining planted tanks wasn't the reason of me quitting. In fact, as rightly pointed out by Simon, it is pure pleasure to smoke while enjoying yr own creation.

As for the comment by vinz, pls allow me to clarify that sometimes it ain't the smokers fault that they 'purposely' stub their cigarettes on the plastic instead of the little steel container. It's due to people (smokers or non-smokers alike) throwing bits of paper or tissue paper in the container instead of the bigger compartment below. "Inconsiderate" smokers will still throw/stub their cigs in the container, regardless whether there are other "unauthorised" items inside the container, resulting in mini-fires which I believe many of us have ever come across. Other "considerate" smokers will choose to stub their cigs on the plastic instead when seeing flammable waste in the container, as throwing them on the ground is an offence that warrant fines and worse, CWO.

I'm not defending anyone but just trying to show the picture from the other side.

ps: as for the walls and toilet seats, it's a clear cut vandalism act n not pardonable.

Just goes to show that everybody (i.e. smokers AND non-smokers) should, to quote a "TV relative", "use your blain, use your blain, use your blain!!!", and be considerate to people around them.

Smoker. And I find that cigarette smoke agitates me. I try to smoke in as open an area as I possibly can so that the smoke doesn't bother me.

You face other problem even if you stay above them. They smoke near the window, and the smoke will get into your bedroom and stink the whole room.

Not against smoker, but against the smoke.

I am also a non-smoker. I am not against my friends smoking in front of me but if they are close friends, i will advise them to smoke less for their health and also their pockets.

Was a smoker for 8 years, since age 15.

After NS, I was doing part-time jobs mainly. Mom's continuous nagging at me for not securing a permanent job was too much for me that smoking suddenly tasted bad. Now I'm grateful those nags cos I eventually quit smoking in 1993, within two weeks!
