Edmund: Have to be patient with a low-tech tanks. When I first started my 1ft cube with 9W PL, I also got hair algae in my Taiwan Moss. I removed as much as I can. As the moss grow in mass, it seem to have stabilise and algae took a back seat.

If you want, can introduce Yamatos to eat the algae.

Appreciate your advice. Guess this will have to be the case for a while till the tank stabilizes. I really like how your tank looks like. Wild and mysterious. Will remove as much as I can and see what happens. Floor's full of E. Tenellus and crypts now. Don't have space to plant anything else. Just hope that the plant biomass theory works for me this time.

Hi guys,

Hair algae is still around. I'm seeing other parts of my moss infected already. PL Lighting reduced from 55W to 36W. No CO2 still. Fan on 24/7. Not dosing anything at all. Any ideas of what I might need to change? Its really tiring to remove the hair algae strands manually and I had wanted this to be a low tech tank. Bleah...

When I started my low-tech tank, I had problem with hair algae. I solve the problem with yamato shrimps. They are fantastic in clear hair algae from the moss.

I really like what I see! Really wild looking! And the explosion of colors from your flora AND fauna is breathtaking! A low tech tank can look amazing too don't it? Thanks for sharing! I love the look of your crypts.

BTW, from the looks of it, I might be having a case of Utricularia instead of hair algae. Was surfing thru this site and the description of this pest seems to fit more. Its straggly, fine and tangles up with the moss, and its not spreading like what algae usually does (for me at least) to other plants. Read that manual removal is but the only way. Added some Yamatoes today though. Wonder if they'll help me on this.
