I think for planted, a 3 X 2 X 2 ft will be ideal in terms of presention and creating a sense of depth.

    Cheers,
I have dwarf cichlids in my tanks! Do you?

I would prefer smaller tanks, ie 2 feet and below. But height and width should be not be less than 2/3 of the length. As I like to constantly meddle with the layouts, the tank shouldn't be too big and deep or else my armpits will get wet

    ha ha good one. i have 3 x 2 x2 and 2 x 2ht x 1.5 and 2 x 2ht x 1 planted tanks. but i always dream of a 5 footer or 6...

but ht must be 2 ft, depth 2 ft.
would like 4x2x4 as a centre piece tank...
in another dream got 8ft tank plus terrarium... the whole shebang...

    Hi,
I prefer 3 footers easy to do almost anything. But a showcase will have to be a 4 footer by 2 by 2 for me
Something about the water & the fishes that calms me down.

I feel that huge tank is breathe taking. Like the Teo's 9 footer, thou simple the scaping, it still looks great.

Well, if you look from the fish's point of view, a 1 feet well-scaped nano can be as breath-taking as well

depends on the person le. 1 ft nano tank, eyes have to be like one inch from tank to enjoy.

me like to sit back and feel i'm in a lush tropical setting. 9 ft is ... beyond my apt. though as tempting as it sounds.

my tv gets less attention than my tanks...

I prefer 6ft tank... cos can really play with scaping, keep taller plants with less frequent trimming and yet have a lot of open spaces... but hor, for practicality sake, I think 2 or 3 ft tanks would be better for planting... Easier to plant, scape and maintain... Contradicting?...

4 x 2 x 2ft will be ideal for me but for practical reasons it will be a 3 x 2 x 2ft. The reason why 2ft width and height is becos it looks much better and also with 2 ft height, you don't need to trim taller plants as often.

Actually that depends on the plants and their use... But, yes, the taller the tank, the less frequent the trimming... 2.5ft height would also be very nice... but will have problems with light intensity for foreground plants and lower leaves of stemmed plants... Also for people like me, with short arms... Keke... we will get a facial treatment everytime we do tank maintenance! Haha...

For planted tanks, I would say 3ft comes closest to the ideal proportion, length and width wise.

    hi thomas,

in due course...two months perhaps, xmas round the corner[broke]...will do a photo journal...[lighting is a bee]

this 7.5' tank is planned to be altum tank. i want 14" altums!

i have another 5 footer for discus...

got a 3 footer now which is nice but can't really plant the jungle plants...bolbitis-swords...etc. [can but really not a milimeter to spare!]

back to topic, the funny thing is i agree with everybody here. with exception to a nano[please don't take offense as i understand not everybody can afford the space or time or just like it cute. amano has shown how nano tanks can brighten up a dining table-replacing the typical flower or fruit bouquet decor]
