I have a 45 gallon hex tank which has been running for about 18 months. I added a hippo tang about a month ago. I noticed last night that the tang had a poppe up eye? I beleive that this is some sort of illness, does anyone know if there is a treatment? Will it be able to pull through this without any assisstance? The tang is eating at each feeding (twice a day). Any help would bhe great.
    Thanks in advance.

Here are some details of my setup.

    Filter System:
    Protein Filter

    Cleaner Shrimp: ~4 months
Hippo Tang (Dori): ~4 weeks (2 inches)

There are a variety of medication for Pop Eye treatment that's available off the shelf. Best to isolate the sick fish for a more targeted and effective treatment. The good news is that usually fishes will survive from pop eye if timely treatment is given.

What is more important is to get to the root of the problem. Is there a possibility that the yellow tang is stressing out the sick fish?

Hope your fish get well soon!

    Thanks for the info.
It turns out the the hippo tang actually fought off the illness on his own, he seems to be fine now.

As for the root of the problem....
I do not think that it is my yellow tang as they seem to get along great. I may have introduced him into the tank too quickly when I purchased him about a month ago.
This is how I handled the introduction into the tank...

Let the bag sit in my tank for appx 1.5 hours to ensure that the water was the same temp.
I then added some of my tank water into the bag and waited a few minutes (about 10 or so)
I then removed some of the water from the bag and dumped it, and added more water from my tank. I did this about 4-5 times before I introduced him into to the tank.

Any comments regarding this methof of into would be great.
    thanks in advanve.

hmmm...interesting that he only took a day to show signs of recovery... Very lucky of you.

In any case, it would not take 1 month before he gets pop eyes if you didn't aclimatise the fish properly. There's probably another cause.

Your introduction procedure seems fine, althought you could probably add more tank water over another hour with 15 minutes interval.
