Rainbow Fish in community tank

Saw some nice Rainbow fish at Nature last week. It is blue and yellow in colour selling at $3.

Just wondering is it suitable for planted community tank.

What are the fish that will not mix well with them.

those are the boosemann rainbowfish. I tried one of those and a neon rainbowfish b4 in my 72L tank. prob is they need a much bigger tank to swim in and are quite aggressive despite books saying they are community fishes. perhaps it's my luck to get fish with that disposition but they tended to chase my other fishes. had to give them back to the LFS in the end.

they r not really aggressive, get them young so they can adapt to yr tank.. my bosenmani started eating my yamato/malayan after my congo tetra does it.. they r very beautiful..

i think they will be safe.. never see my rainbow do anything to my corys

let me clarify, when I said aggressive I meant they chase the other fishes alot. but I haven't seen any actual damage at all. but i just didn't like the sigh of seeing my fishes in a constant state of fight/flight.

hippo, wat r the fishes they chased in yr tank? I have 'exclamation' rasbora at the size of 1.5cm together with them without any problems

if you have a big enough tank i'd suggest getting a whole school of them

simon: first I had a small neon rainbow (still young) and it lived peacefully with a little chasing of fishes which is normal to me. then I added a booseman, which chased the neon a lot (aka constantly) so had to give it back to LFS, after removal of bosseman, the neon seemed to be relived and became the next king and chased my guppies alot. sigh....

hippo, think yr case falls into the exceptional cases.. I too have neon rainbow together with the bosemanni, but oso no probs.. the only problematic fish I have is the congo tetra

small fish, all I'm trying to say is, though a fish is supposed to be a community fish, there can be exceptions.. buy them and try, thats all I can say.. bosemanni rainbow fish is a beautiful fish to have

Agree dat the boeseman is a beautiful species to keep...been itching to get it, but afraid it won't be happy in my tank (only 2ft)....sigh....

Also read somewhere they r gd swimmers, & is ideal to provide it wif some current to swim....& of course, they r so-called a community species.

BTW, ProPet in Tampines selling the boesemans for $1.80...saw it on Saturday....only abt 1.5in long each, so still quite young.

Nizz, when you come for the bacopa have a look at the Bosemani, they're still in the bath tub, the two small ones could be good for your tank.
