Ludwigia Brevipes under low light condition.
Then what plant is this, please ID
Looks like the emersed version of the same plant.![]()
looks like a new variety of bacopa to me.

It looks more like a ludwigia than bacopa but I'm not sure the exact species of ludwigia.Originally Posted by lorba

I thing Wong has the closest guess, they are of the same plant.
BUT not totally correct.
I was told it is 'Didiplis Diandra'
They are BOTH submersed form.
The Bottom portion is how it looked when I bought it from AQ (Submersed form)
The Top portion is how it turn up after I plant it into my newly changed substrate, China Brand (poise) bought from NA. It has same characteristic as ADA soil, <6GH, 0KH. Better as it contain fertiliser, and I don't need to put base fert below the substrate. Look at how fat the leaf turned into, how fertile is the soil!!!
Best of all, I tried NO CO2! and I can even grow Tonina!!! which no one thought it is possible without CO2!!!
That is the whole purpose of this post, Share info some new wonderful substrate that I tried and achieve superb result with no CO2!
if it is really Didiplis Diandra, then I must say the soil is really powerful. The leave size is many times bigger then the normal Didiplis Diandra that i have seen.
Didiplis Diandra can be easily identified by red minute flowers at every internode, do you see them?

Hey...the person who sold you that is not didiplis diandra lah. That I'm definitely sure. DD aka 'blood star grass' has 4 leaves on each internode and grows parallel. They also have tiny little red seeds on the stem.
And from the emersed version of it, that definitely is a Ludwigia sp. Ludwigia b.revipes to be exact. I'll post a pic shortly of how they look like shortly.
Hello Wong, You got it mistaken, there is no EMERSED form at all. I didn't grow it emersed after I bought it. The conversion is submersed, with china substrate, and NO Co2.Originally Posted by wong1979
Well, from 2 plant book that I researched, DD only have 2 leaves on each node. I wil go and check if they have the red thingy at the node.
But that is not the whole point of this post, sorry for the Subject title. Anyway it is interesting to find out the real ID. (Both are submersed!)
isnt it four leaf inter-noded in his picture??
I may be wrong but this is what I think. The 2nd picture is showing the bottom part as submersed. And the top part is actually the emersed form. If you continue to let it grow for say 2 weeks, the oval shape will soon turn back into needle shape which is the submersed version.
If it turns from needle shape to oval shape under fully submersed version, then I'm amazed.![]()
Hi Lorba and Wong, I could not see the red thingy at the node,
Well it could well be 'Ludwigia b.revipes'
Anyway, they are both submersed form and look at how fat is the leaf. If Wong recognised them as emersed form of Ludwigia b.revipes.
Then it must be UNDERWATER emersed form....and without CO2.
I genuingly did not play the trick of growing them emersed. Anyone is welcome to verified it in my thank.
No, if you observe closely, it's 2 leaves alternating. I'll search the web again to find close-up picsOriginally Posted by ranmasatome

When I bought it, it is all needle shape, I didn't have a chance to take the picture for later proof because I didn't know it will turned up fat leaf. Now this is how it look in my tank after 2 weeks of planting in the china substrate.
All the top fat leaf are converted right in my tank and infront of my own eyes.
Wong, it will not turn needle again, unless the fert wear out later, it is how it look now, fat leaf after 2 week.
time to try the china fert! But without CO2, how well can the plants grow?
If the soil contains fertilizer by its own, wouldnt that leech nutrients to the water?

Pictures can be deceiving. But if we go to Teo's farm tomorrow, we may clear all doubts![]()

Nutrient Leech?
The soil seems function like the rootmonster (slow release and no leeching problem right??) it has a hard outer shell, unlike ADA which cloud the water easily as it is powdery. After soaking in the water for 2 weeks, i thought it might soften, but it didn't, I crushed them and it seems as hard as those steamed peanut. Best thing is, you can use it right from the bag, wont cloud the water, wont leach and wont burn the root.
If I say some more, I sound like the manufacturer/inventer of the china substrate already.
Then it's amazing. I'm not doubting your credibility. But perhaps the non-CO2 enviroment and soil condition induces it for that kind of growth. BTW, what's the lighting like? And your tank size.
